Broken Hand?
Often caused by a fall, a direct blow, or a sports-related injury, a break in one of the 27 bones of the hand can affect your ability to complete everyday tasks.
Common signs of a broken hand include:
- Bruising
- Deformity, such as a crooked finger
- Inability to move your fingers or thumb
- Numbness
- Severe pain that increases when moving or using your hand
- Swelling
Many fractures can be treated with nonsurgical treatment options, such as a cast or splint; however, if your fracture is serious or complex, it might require surgery to realign the broken pieces of the bone.
If you have a broken hand, it is important that you seek treatment as soon as possible. Waiting can affect the healing process as well as decrease your range of motion and grip strength.
